Gloucester
MP Parmjit Dhanda has launched a public consultation on his website
to find out what Gloucester residents think abut the County
Council’s plans to build an incinerator.
The
consultation follows the Conservative County Council’s vote last
Wednesday to submit an application to the Department for the
Environment and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) for a Private Finance
Initiative (PFI) grant. The application includes a detailed
business case for the building of a giant incinerator likely to be
at Javelin Park in Quedgeley, Gloucester.
Plans for an
incinerator have been supported by Tory Councillor’s from across
the County including Quedgeley Councillor Jackie Hall. The Tories
are now pressing ahead with their plans and are in the process of
submitting their business case to the Government for
funding.
Parmjit
said,
“I will
happily write to DEFRA in opposition to these plans but I want to
know if that’s what local people want me to do. That’s why I have
launched a public consultation on my website. You can vote on whether I should send a
letter to DEFRA calling on them to reject the council’s plea for
money or not.”
Do you think
Parmjit should write to DEFRA opposing the Council's
proposals?
