Shining a Light on Ince Castle Way

Gloucester’s MP today pledged to back a locally organised campaign to improve lighting on Ince Castle Way.  The walkway – which runs from Chequers to Barton – has very poor lighting and to make matters worse there is also a very dark subway under the railway bridge adjacent to the street.

Parmjit visited the street to speak to local people who have been campaigning for better lighting along Ince Castle Way and the subway, and also for new flood repairs to be put in place.  He also met the area’s local councillor, Harjit Gill and the petition organiser Ahmed Hansdott to find out more about the campaign.

Parmjit said:

“I’ve seen for myself how dark and potentially intimidating Ince Castle Way and the railway subway can be, especially at night.  People need to feel safe in their local community and improved street lighting, as well as new lighting in the subway would really help.

I have also witnessed first hand how dangerous the subway can be.  Whilst visiting the area I saw floods underneath the subway caused by heavy rainfall - it is in desperate need of drainage.

We will be urging the Council to listen to local residents and carry out the necessary work.”
